You arrive in Noto with almost no expectations, thinking it will be just another stop on your Sicily itinerary… and suddenly you understand why everyone talks about this town.
The main street, Corso Vittorio Emanuele, is flanked by Baroque palaces made of stone that turns golden at sunset. The cathedral that closes the perspective is exactly as you imagine it before you arrive. The atmosphere as the sun sets, with crowded terraces and the light slowly changing, is one of those that makes you want to stay longer than planned.
And that’s the key: staying. Because Noto as a day trip from Syracuse or Catania is one experience. Noto with an overnight stay included is a completely different experience.
When the tour groups leave at sunset, the town breathes. The streets are left to those who have stayed overnight, the restaurants have a completely different atmosphere, and you can enjoy the best light of the day—that of early morning on the Baroque stone—with no one in front of you.
This guide tells you where to stay depending on what you're looking for: if you want to be in the center of everything or prefer to disconnect in the countryside with views of the town from a distance.

Staying in the center of Noto · Embrace Sicily Guesthouse
If you're looking to be in the heart of Noto, a three-minute walk from the cathedral, and with the possibility of stepping out onto the main street directly after breakfast, Embrace Sicily Guesthouse is our top choice.
It's a small, family-run bed & breakfast housed in a renovated 20th-century palace in the neighborhood known as "Cianazzo," the upper part of Noto, where, as they say, time seems to have stood still. And it's hard to disagree when you arrive and see the surrounding streets.
What makes Embrace Sicily special isn't so much what it has, but how it has it. The rooms are individual, each decorated differently, with comfortable beds and well-equipped private bathrooms. The breakfast — a buffet with local products, freshly baked croissants from the nearby bakery — is among the best you'll find on your entire trip.
And Carlo and Paolo, the brothers who manage it, are exactly the kind of hosts who give you restaurant recommendations you won't find in any guide and make you feel at home from the very first moment.
It has a jacuzzi, a terrace with views, free parking nearby, and Wi-Fi throughout the property. The rating on almost all platforms is close to 10 out of 10 — something that, when you've been traveling for a while, you know is not common.
Its location is its great advantage: you are a 3-minute walk from Noto Cathedral, 5 minutes from Palazzo Nicolaci, and a stone's throw from the Corso. But at the same time, it's on a quiet street where the noise from the tourist area doesn't reach.
What we like most: the breakfast, the hosts, and being able to step out directly for a walk in the center — that feeling that the city is yours when no one else has arrived yet.
Perfect for: couples, solo travelers, or small groups who want to experience Noto in a local atmosphere but with the comfort and luxury of a guesthouse where you won't lack anything.

Staying on the outskirts of Noto at Villa Favorita
If the first option is to experience Noto from within, this one is to experience it from without. And sometimes that's exactly what you need.
Villa Favorita is a historic residence from 1752, located about 3 kilometers from the center of Noto, in the middle of the countryside, surrounded by almond trees, centuries-old palm trees, olive groves, and an organic garden that provides many of the restaurant's ingredients. The estate has been producing olive oil since the 17th century and is managed directly by the owner family, the same descendants as always.
From the pool and many of the rooms with balconies, you can see Noto's Baroque towers in the distance, with the Sicilian countryside in between. It's one of those landscapes that needs no filter and is hard to forget.
The rooms are classic, with original 18th-century floors in some of the most special ones, decorated with antiques and that touch of history that cannot be replicated in a new hotel. The superior rooms have private terraces with views. The suite is, literally, two rooms with a garden terrace and sea views on the horizon.
The restaurant uses local produce and ingredients from the estate itself, with an à la carte menu served on the terrace. Breakfast is a buffet with sweet and savory options. And if you fancy something different, they offer cooking and painting classes — the kind of activity that in another context might seem forced but fits perfectly with the pace of the place here.
The only thing you need to keep in mind: you need a car. It's not a walk to the center of Noto; it's about a 10-minute taxi or car ride. For some, that's an inconvenience; for others, it's exactly what they're looking for — the right distance to disconnect from tourism and have the town available when you want it.
What we like most: waking up to the smell of almond trees, the silence, the views of Noto from the pool, and knowing that you're sleeping in the same place someone slept in 1752.
Perfect for: couples looking for a romantic getaway, travelers who want to combine culture with real relaxation, or anyone who needs to slow down after several days of cities and sightseeing.

How much time to dedicate to Noto?
This is probably the most important question you can ask yourself about Noto, because the answer completely changes the experience.
With half a day you see the essentials: the Corso, the cathedral, a stop at a café for a granita, and you get your photos. It's enough to understand why it's on the UNESCO list, but not to understand why people come back.
With one night it starts to make sense. You arrive in the afternoon, stroll when the light is best, have a leisurely dinner at a local restaurant, sleep in the silence of a small town, and have the morning to wander the streets when they are still empty. That early morning in Noto, with the golden stone and almost no one on the street, is one of those moments that stick with you.
With two nights you can combine it with excursions to Marzamemi, the Vendicari Nature Reserve, or Ragusa, using Noto as a quiet base to explore southeastern Sicily.
Practical tips before booking your Noto getaway
Book in advance, especially during high season, from June to September. Noto has gained a lot of visibility in recent years, and good accommodations fill up quickly.
If you go in July or August, keep in mind that the heat can be intense. Early mornings and sunsets are the best times for a stroll. Both accommodations have air conditioning.
A car is highly recommended if you want to explore the surroundings — Marzamemi, Vendicari, Ragusa, Modica — with freedom. From Catania airport, it's approximately a 1h30 drive.
For Villa Favorita, a car is practically essential. For Embrace Sicily, you can arrive without a car if you come by train from Syracuse or Catania, although you'll need one to get around the area afterward.
Noto isn't a place to do many things. It's a place to be. And the difference between staying overnight or not staying is, often, the difference between taking home a beautiful memory and taking home one of the best moments of your trip.
