This 8-day Mexico itinerary is based on my real experience traveling through Mexico City, Oaxaca, and Puerto Escondido. It is a balanced route that combines historical heritage, authentic gastronomy, and beach days on the Pacific.
Eight days allow you to enjoy each destination without feeling rushed, optimizing transfers and maintaining geographical coherence.
Day 1: Historic Center of Mexico City
Arrival in CDMX and first contact with the Historic Center: Zócalo, Metropolitan Cathedral, Templo Mayor, and Palacio de Bellas Artes.
Strolling through Alameda Central and dining in a traditional cantina is the best way to start the trip.
Day 2: Roma, Condesa, and Coyoacán
We explore Roma and Condesa to enjoy coffee shops, galleries, and art deco architecture.
In the afternoon, we visit Coyoacán and the Frida Kahlo Museum, essential to understanding the country's cultural dimension.
Day 3: Teotihuacán and transfer to Oaxaca
Early excursion to Teotihuacán to avoid crowds and explore the Pyramid of the Sun and the Avenue of the Dead.
In the afternoon, fly to Oaxaca to optimize time.
Day 4: Oaxaca city and traditional markets
Tour of Oaxaca's historic center, the Santo Domingo Temple, and the Ethnobotanical Garden.
Benito Juárez and 20 de Noviembre markets are perfect for trying mole, tlayudas, and mezcal.
Day 5: Monte Albán and Hierve el Agua
Visit Monte Albán in the morning and excursion to Hierve el Agua in the afternoon.
This day combines archaeology and nature in one of Mexico's most authentic regions.
Day 6: Transfer to Puerto Escondido and first beaches
Travel to Puerto Escondido. First contact with the Pacific on beaches like Zicatela or Carrizalillo.
Relaxed atmosphere, ideal for changing pace after cultural days.
Day 7: Coast, sunset, and bioluminescence
Full day of beach and sunsets by the sea.
At night, a bioluminescence experience in the Manialtepec lagoon, one of the most special moments of the trip.
Day 8: Farewell and return
Last quiet morning on the coast before the transfer to the airport. This allows for a calm end to the trip after an intense week.
