Qué ver en Lombok en 4 días: playas , restaurantes y surf

Lombok has established itself as one of the best alternatives to Bali for those seeking a more authentic, less crowded destination with a strong connection to nature.

Just a few kilometers away, this island offers pristine beaches, renowned surf spots, and unique volcanic landscapes. In this article, you will find what to see in Lombok in 4 days, with an optimized itinerary to make the most of your trip.

Why travel to Lombok in 2026 (and not just Bali)

Lombok is the natural alternative to Bali for those looking for a quieter, less crowded trip with a more direct connection to the environment. While Bali has evolved into a highly developed destination (with areas like Canggu or Ubud completely adapted for tourism), Lombok maintains a more authentic essence.

Here you won't find as many beach clubs or "Instagrammable" cafes, but you will find practically virgin beaches, roads surrounded by nature, and a constant sense of disconnection.

For example:

  • In Selong Belanak, it's common to see buffaloes walking along the beach at sunset.

  • In northern areas, such as near Rinjani, the vegetation and landscape are reminiscent of a much wilder Indonesia.

If Bali is energy, Lombok is a pause. And that is precisely its greatest advantage.

Lombok 4-day itinerary: optimized day-by-day route

Day 1: Kuta Lombok and first beaches

The best base to start is Kuta Lombok (not to be confused with Kuta Bali). It is the most strategic point to explore the south.

Upon arrival:

  • Go to Tanjung Aan, one of the most beautiful beaches on the island, with very fine white sand and turquoise waters.

  • Climb to the Bukit Merese viewpoint to watch the sunset (one of the best in Lombok).

It's a gentle first day, ideal for settling into the destination.

Day 2: Beaches + surfing in the south

Dedicate the second day to exploring the south coast:

  • Selong Belanak → perfect if you want to start surfing (gentle waves + local schools).

  • Mawun Beach → quieter bay, ideal for swimming.

  • Mawi Beach → wilder, recommended if you already have a good surfing level.

In Selong Belanak, you can rent a board for about 5–10€ and take a class with local instructors directly on the beach.

This day combines movement + relaxation + local experience.

Day 3: North Lombok and waterfalls

A total change of scenery: from the dry south to the tropical north.

Visit:

  • Sendang Gile → accessible and very photogenic waterfall.

  • Tiu Kelep → more impressive, requires a 20–30 min walk.

Both are near Mount Rinjani, the most important volcano on the island.

Our advice:

  • Wear closed shoes (the path can be slippery).

  • Hire a local guide if you want to make it more comfortable.

It's the most "adventure" day of the itinerary.

Day 4: Gili Islands or relaxation day

You have two options:

Option A: Gili Islands excursion

  • Gili Trawangan → more lively

  • Gili Air → more balanced

  • Gili Meno → quieter

Option B: Stay in Lombok

  • Revisit your favorite beach

  • Go surfing

  • End with a local massage

If your trip is short, sometimes it's better NOT to go to Gili to avoid transfers.

The best beaches in Lombok (beyond Kuta)

Although Kuta Lombok is the base, the best beaches are around it:

  • Tanjung Aan → the most iconic, white sand and calm waters

  • Selong Belanak → perfect for surfing + swimming

  • Mawun Beach → quieter and less touristy

  • Pink Beach → further away, sand with pink hues (less accessible)

If you rent a scooter, you can easily do a circular route through these beaches in a day.

Where to surf in Lombok: spots for all levels

Although Kuta Lombok is the base, the best beaches are around it:

  • Tanjung Aan → the most iconic, white sand and calm waters

  • Selong Belanak → perfect for surfing + swimming

  • Mawun Beach → quieter and less touristy

  • Pink Beach → further away, sand with pink hues (less accessible)

If you rent a scooter, you can easily do a circular route through these beaches in a day.

Recommended restaurants and beach clubs in Lombok

Kuta Lombok concentrates most of the interesting options:

  • El Bazar Café → Mediterranean + local cuisine (highly recommended)

  • Bush Radio → relaxed atmosphere + healthy food

  • Ashtari → spectacular sunset views

  • Milk Espresso → brunch and Bali-style coffee

Don't expect the gastronomic level of Bali, but you will find very well-kept places.

Where to stay in Lombok based on your travel style

Choosing where to stay in Lombok is key because the island is not as developed as Bali, and transfers can take longer than it seems.

Here, it doesn't make sense to constantly change areas: the most efficient thing is to choose a good base and move from there.

Furthermore, Lombok does not operate with "connected tourist areas," but rather with quite distinct areas. Therefore, the choice of accommodation completely dictates your experience.

  • Kuta Lombok (the best option overall)
It is the most recommended base if it's your first time. From here you can easily access the main southern beaches (Tanjung Aan, Selong Belanak, Mawun).
It also concentrates the largest offer of restaurants, cafes, and accommodations.
Staying here allows you to make daily scooter trips of 20–40 minutes without having to change hotels.

  • Senggigi (more classic option)
It was the main tourist area years ago. It has large hotels and sea views, but less atmosphere and less connection with the current key points.
It might make sense if you're looking for something quieter, but it's not the best base for a short trip.

  • Northern area (Rinjani / waterfalls)
Ideal if you are looking for nature, trekking, or a more local experience.
Staying near Senaru allows you easy access to waterfalls like Tiu Kelep, but it's far from the other plans.

  • Gili Islands (complementary option, not main base)
They are perfect to add to the trip, but not as a base to explore Lombok.
Ideally, visit them as an excursion or stay 1–2 separate nights.

If you're going for 4 days → stay in Kuta Lombok and optimize from there.

How to get around Lombok

Getting around Lombok requires planning. Although distances seem short on the map, the reality is that the roads, local traffic, and the condition of some routes make journeys longer than expected.

A 50 km journey can easily take between 1h30 and 2h. Therefore, choosing the right transport is key to not wasting time.

  • Scooter (most flexible option)
It is the most common way to get around, especially in the south.
It allows you to access remote beaches and stop wherever you want. Ideal if you already have experience driving in Asia.

  • Car with driver (the most recommended option)
Very common in Indonesia and surprisingly affordable. You can hire a driver for a full day and forget about routes, maps, and stress.

  • Private transfers
Useful for long journeys (airport, waterfalls, port to Gili). More comfortable than improvising transport on the spot.

  • Boat (for Gili)
From Bangsal or Teluk Nare. Important to check schedules and sea conditions.

For short trips (3–4 days), a car with a driver is usually the best option to optimize time and avoid unforeseen events.

Practical tips for traveling to Lombok

Before traveling to Lombok, it's advisable to consider some aspects that can make the difference between a smooth trip and a more complicated one.

It's not a difficult destination, but it does require a bit more planning than Bali.

• Best time: May to October
• Carry cash
• Respect local culture
• Plan transfers
• Combine with Bali

Lombok is a destination that fits perfectly into a 4-day trip if you're looking for beaches, nature, and fewer tourists. It doesn't replace Bali, but it complements it very well.

If you want a more authentic Indonesia, this is your place.
